What is a Voter ID card?
A unique identification document known as the Voter Identity Card is provided by the Election Commission of India, aiming to authenticate individuals during the electoral process, thus enhancing the integrity and transparency of democratic elections. This card, alternatively referred to as EPIC (Electors Photo Identity Card), election card, or voter’s card, serves as a pivotal tool in validating voters’ identities and ensuring the efficiency and honesty of the electoral system.
Eligibility to apply for Voter ID card
To be eligible for a Voter ID card, a person must satisfy the following three conditions:
- Citizen of India
- 18 years of age
- Have a permanent address
How to apply for a Voter ID card?
- Start by visiting the official Voter Services Portal.
- Once you’re on the homepage, click on the ‘Sign up’ option located at the top right corner.
- Fill in all the required details to complete your registration on the portal.
- After successful registration, log in to the Voter Services Portal by clicking the ‘Login’ button. Enter your mobile number, password, captcha, and OTP as prompted.
- Upon logging in, navigate to the ‘New registration for general electors’ tab and click on the ‘Fill Form 6’ button.
- Provide all the necessary details in Form 6, upload the required documents, and finally, click on the ‘Submit’ button to complete the process.

How to download Voter id card?
- Go to the official Voter Services Portal.
- Log in with your mobile number, password, and captcha code. Then, click to request an OTP.
- Enter the OTP you receive on your mobile phone to verify and log in.
- Look for the ‘E-EPIC Download’ section and click on it.
- Choose either your EPIC number or Form Reference number.
- Fill in your EPIC or Form Reference number, select your state, and click ‘Search’.
- Your Voter ID details will pop up on the screen. Click to send another OTP. Just remember, if your mobile number isn’t updated, you won’t see this option.
- Enter the OTP and click ‘Verify’.
- Finally, hit the ‘Download e-EPIC’ button to get your Voter ID card.
